This necklace belonged to my grandmother. I just love the two tone beads. Can anyone identify when/where they were made? I'm not even sure what they are made of. They feel too light to be glass...maybe some kind of plastic? Today in a FB group someone else posted a necklace with the same beads, but they don't know anything either. So I thought I would renew my own research effort and try here. The necklace is 30" and the central piece is 2" wide. The longest dangle is 2 3/4" long. Any ideas??? Am I right on Art Deco? Have you run your teeth over the white part?
Probably not pearls, but doesn't hurt to double check.

Metal appears to be silver. Did you try to clean a little area to see if it shines up?

Not pearls...and not silver (sunshine cloth doesn't even touch the dark areas, although I haven't actually tested it).

    Love the necklace, Wenna.:)
It looks it. It reminds me a bit of Jakob Bengel jewellery, though more delicate.
It also looks like all base materials, which were hot in the Art Deco period. Anything new was fashionable. If European, the black material could be galalith.

At that length, think it would qualify as a sautoir. And definitely a Jazz Age (deco) look. Fashion jewellery of its day, more interesting for design than value of components.

Yes, it is long. I wore it out dancing once and it was swinging all over the place! It looked great though!

Thanks AJ...yes, I think the metal bar is base metal, nothing special. It's the beads I adore for some reason.

    That contrast is always nice.

I have guessed that is why they are called sautoirs - they jump all over the place when you do.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?
