So it's brass-covered wood according to the listing. The wood looks quite new somehow. It's supposed to be 19th century.

Can you tell what kind of a glass the frame has? It says there's a glass but I can't tell if it's the original rounded dome or a replacement flat glass.

Is this kind of a frame desirable without the domed glass?

What about this one, 19th century?

  2. Hmmm. Just read through your ebay item and it doesn't say anything about glass so I am sure that the price is just for the frame. Shame the photo of the back is so bad that it is difficult to detrmine what wood it is. It is a gold leafed wooden oval frame probably dating to around 1860-1870, Napoleon III era. usually these frames are to be found in black. It looks in good nick but that is difficult to tell. Soem woodworm holes in the back. Nothing in the front so it is probably a hard wood, maybe oak, as woodworm have a tough time getting through seasoned oak.

It is large at 46 cm and weighs 350 grams so with packing it will cost about 25 euros to post it to the USA. Also at that size it is unlikely it would have had domed glass. Possible but not likely. If it did have original domed glass it would not be for sale at 50 euros.

Try offering 35 euros and see what they say.

Did you see that seller's feedback? I would proceed with extreme caution.

  4. Not sure what you mean Debora. I checked the feedback and it's really good. 68 positive and only two neutral with no negatives. Even the comments were good.

I was referring to seller in first link. It that's not the item you're interested in, apologies.
