At the place I work we are getting a piece of furniture consigned that came out of a house from a high profile murder.

While it was not in the room where the murders took place, it is mentioned in reports and was being used by one of the victims right up until the murder.

Would you have any reservations about buying a piece like this?
    Reasons?
    Morbid, fear of bad juju?

I wouldn't take it. To me, it would be a constant reminder of the murder.

My fear would be that it absorbed negative energy. Its a pretty piece, but eesh, idk.

I doubt there's any blood, especially at this point. It was a few decades ago

You drink water don`t you ?
The earth does not produce any new water, it is all recycled and has passed through the bodies of every murder victim that ever lived, chances are you have drank water molicules that have passed through Hitler, Caeser, Bundy,Saddam and all the people they killed.
Think about it when bathing :arghh:

"I never drink water; fish fornicate in it."
(Apocryphal; often attributed to W.C. Fields, though there is no reliable evidence that he actually said it.)

I bought a bunch of modern guns from a local county, all the guns had been confiscated by police before the auction, and each had an evidence tag with the case data, and crime description. One single-barrel 12 ga. Shotgun had brown stains on the wood and a pattern of rust on the barrel. Tag read "suicide." No big deal, kept it around for years and sold it with no hype price nor fanfare.

I would get it - just think of the neat conversations you might have telling about it.
I have bought a lot of 'stuff' from estate sales and all were dead - lol! How they died was mostly left to speculation - except One fella first killed his dog and then himself, had no bad vibes. Not that I would pay any attention to in the first place.

There are people who will buy it because it came from a murder scene.
Seems to me I remember a news article about a house in Sacramento, it had been the scene of more than one murder over the years. The new owners give tours on occasion.

If I knew the person I would either want it because it belonged to them as a remembrance or wouldn't want it because of the memories.

If I didn't know the person I doubt I would care one way or the other. Inanimate objects are just that, objects. I don't see how it's different from estate items that are being sold because someone died of natural causes.

I'm wondering if people who go round getting murdered could be expected to have very good taste in furniture. It seems such a vulgar thing to do.

Most old things belonged to people who are no longer living. Their lives and the circumstances of their deaths need not be attached to inanimate objects in any way shape or form. I would buy it and not give the history a second thought, nor pass it on. There are circumstances where such provenance could enhance the value of objects but this does not sound like one of those instances unless I am missing something here.

If you are selling an item such as a meat cleaver that was recently used as the murder weapon, I would thank you for the dumb offer and leave your store.

If the piece to which you are referring caught my eye immediately and I fell in love with it, I might shiver a few times as you tell me the history. I would then hesitate, walk away, turn back, stop halfway.

Then offer half the marked price and laugh all the way home if you accepted it.
