Pair Cast Iron Wall Pockets, Spill Vases ?

    Do you think they might be upside down?
    Lamp sconce?
    This part looks like it holds something.
    Although I can't figure out the 5 holes.
    Just throwing out something else to think on.

    The holes are for the spills which makes sense as they are near the fireplace.

    Aren't spill holders pre WWI?
    These look 1930ish.

    Thanks to all of you for looking.
    I cannot visualize how they were part of a fireplace. They are listed as being very heavy cast iron. Do you think they hung next to the fireplace ?
