Looking for any information on a chair given to my grandmother in the 60s

    I can't help......very unique chair but I can't tell if it's turn of the Century or much newer. Others will be along to help.............

    Carving looks late nineteenth as does that ebonising. Very odd shape.

    Looks like a slipper chair ca. 1910 with a combination of Art Nouveau and neo-Renaissance styling. The "ebonizing" looks more like something grandma did in the 1970s. The wood is probably oak.

    I was told it’s cherry wood and was black when it was given to her 2DFB32D9-95DC-4411-AFDF-EE45DB1B3D17.jpeg

    That back is what we call a press-back in Canada, not carved, steam pressed, usually ash or elm.
