Greetings, took me a moment to get around to posting this one. Here is the ring from my last “Finds” posting. I had primarily purchased it since it looked so similar to another ring I own. I’ll go ahead and post them both. What is your opinion? Are these an older style or are they modern and inspired by old designs? What would you call this style? Center stone is diamond for both of them. 15253385-5635-4F35-B264-6FCC54D6AA4C.jpeg 771FECA2-A78A-48D0-97BD-F6BE7CEBF6F8.jpeg 848D2021-B0A9-44CC-9CBE-2D0763AAE9F3.jpeg DBC24CD5-9C5D-4BD4-B881-C04921380513.jpeg E59C6BA0-3986-44A3-B32B-01D8987784C5.jpeg FD0D989C-25AC-494D-918A-B53F9267FC0E.jpeg

I go for badly made/inspired copies of older rings; esp. the cast of the first one has space for improvement/rework

I am sorry, BMRT, I have to agree with MaJa. Unfortunately the Chinese have been copying this style for some years now. We have seen them before on the forum, and there are a lot on ebay, often straight from China.
Agree, #1 would never have left the workshop if it were period.

Since the top ring is marked 16K I don't think it came from China.

Fair enough, I looked up filigree gold rings on eBay and there is a CRAP TON on there! Only good thing is this learning curve wasn’t expensive and I’m happy enough with it testing real for metal content + stone. Thanks again!

If you enlarge the photo you can see that a zero was not stamped.Yes 16K(666) gold does exist and was even used by Tiffany at one time, now it is mostly used as dental gold.

While it says 16k I’m still going with the issue with casting. Looking at the inside of both the yellow gold & white gold, the yellow gold is much “cleaner” on the inside of the design. When I ran my scratch test kit the scrapings on the scratch stone showed some material loss on the 18k acid solution. The rings material held strong under 10k & 14k. I even did the 22k just as a balance and that one was instantly disolved. 83237AB2-A0AE-440B-A23F-FA257C2F93CF.jpeg At least, vintage or not, it appears marked correctly? The diamond reader likes the stone too and considering what I paid I am very much alright with my new “vintage inspired” ring!

This was one that would have been very hard to figure out from listing pictures so I took the gamble. As always, I appreciate everyone’s collective knowledge!

10K... It is the shadow of the depth on the right of the 0 which gave this... as on the diamond shaped mark on the right...:cyclops::peeking::cyclops:

Nope! But your right... the front looks like a weird little sandwich. It’s like that all around.

The casting on the 16k ring is not well-done.... I'd like to see a better shot of the center diamond to see the cut to better gauge the age.

    Dear BMRT:
U have such good taste, that I can only offer one possible solution in the matter of the 16 K ring !

Pop the stone & melt the damn thing !!! It's a mess !

    The 14 K...though.....is a tour de force , cast by a professional !

    IMHO.........

( to add to AJ's comment...it should NEVER have left the factory !!! :jawdrop::rolleyes::rolleyes:)

There was a reason the vast majority filigree type jewelry before WW2 was die struck and not cast. The casting process was poor and was much improved after WW2 due to war time efforts due to more precision needed for military applications.
