    Hi all,

I have a chance to buy this hand carved altar table - it looks Jacobean or even Tudor to me. It is clearly hand-carved and has all the telltale wear signs of great age. What do others think? whole.jpeg front.jpeg

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

Would be interesting to see it with the top opened up!

The little door on the front opens. The top actually folds open to a tabletop 36" square.

I'm not convinced it's much older than late 19th. Let's see what others think, but it's all too crisp.

I haven't been able to see it in person yet. So all I have to go on are these pictures.

But of one thing I am sure - all that carving is definitely hand done.

Guesses this is a 20th century reproduction from what little we can see, the hinges on the door look modern from here.

James, that would quite something - it is being advertised as an early piece with a price to match!

How much? No, not even close to Tudor or Jacobean.

Definite revival piece. The hinges and pull look wrong (as in new-ish) and the fold-open table top makes it seem more like a late 19th century piece than anything from the 17th century.

Asking price is north of 2K - a lot for a reproduction, no?

That's a daft price. Here, a few hundred pounds on a very good day.
