Wood plane with symbols

    I've been collecting antique tools for many years, and I have never seen another plane with symbols like this. I know people used to use these instead of writing there names. Does anyone know anything about this plane? 0115170833.jpg 0115170831.jpg 0115171213.jpg

    looks like a flower on the blade.....but the carved marks are surely the owners.

    The marks look like stone masons symbols or mark.

    Reading from left to right,, looks like a stylized SH !! With way the wood grain is running doing straight lines is easier without all the skips of going cross grain !! Thats the reason it looks like a backwards Z !! My Dad was a builder/carpenter although not of the same era as this plane !! His nickname was Shorty and I have seen a few things of his with an S that looked similar to this one !! Likely just the owners initials as was said above !!
