This was my late grandmothers, and was once one of a pair but unfortunately I lost one a couple of years ago. Although I don't recall her ever telling me where it came from, I believe that it probably came from India as she lived and worked out there as a nanny in the 1930's, whilst my Grandfather who was a Captain in the Royal Artillery, was at war in Karachi. I am curious to find out how much it is worth and whether or not it's legal to trade here in the UK, given that it's Ivory? Any info/advice appreciated :)

It is probably pre 1947,so it is legal to sell, but I do not think it would fetch all that much.

I read somewhere that some of the uk auction houses are reluctant to sell ivory.
You would need to check. I agree minimal value.

    • I wonder if Ivy's seen it. Maybe it's for a pincushion?

My family came from Scotland. I have a porcelain pair of shoes in that same style that belonged to my aunt. My mother told me that the pair I have would have been put on top of a Wedding cake & had heather sprigs inside them to represent good luck.

Thanks guys. To be fair I'm not actually going to sell, as it's more sentimental to me. Was really disappointed when I lost the other one as of course a 'pair' of shoes kind of make more sense :)

    Appreciate the input
