Sterling Silver Armada Dish (?)

    Won this today at the local auction house.

    Hallmarks for CJ Vanders. Sheffield. Sterling. 1997.

    Was listed as an 'ash tray'. A friend of mine ID'd it as an 'Armada dish'...whatever the hell that is!!

    ...what IS an 'armada dish'? Apparently there's a lot of them out there in various sizes, but I've never come across the term, and there's no description/explanation out there of what they are!!

    That site shows the enormous gulf between new and used silver prices. Their 3 inch dish at £125 new would be unlikely to fetch more than £25 at auction.
