Hi! I have had this mantel for 15 years and discovered there is alot of history to it about 10 years ago.. The help/advice I needed is it's a C. B. Atkin mantel from Knoxville, TN. We found documents behind the mirror with newspaper from 1891 and a letter along with a stamp on the back from 1895! So what I know is it's 121 yrs old and in great condition, I am the 3rd owner of it. I have read all about the company and the Atkin family. I can't find the info to get the exact model of it, so I am not sure how to find the value of it. Thanks in advance for any input.

Im confused. It LOOKS 1970s,so Im wondering if the top was added then and the bottom is original? Even though it doesnt look old to me either.

It's a 2 piece original, the C. B. Atkin stamp is on the top mirror piece also. the 2nd owner enclosed a note which I can't find the photo I took of it.. But it was intact in the 1st house in Moss Point Mississippi from 1895 until 1970 when she removed it from her grandparents, great grandparents home.. her husband had to demo the house and couldn't leave it, so they had the mirror redone in 1974, found the paperwork, and put everything back just like it was when they removed the mirror along with her added note. We also are in that business, so 15 years go my husband was hired to ironically demo the 2nd home it was in and I loved it so we kept it and years later decided to do the same thing with the mirror and discovered all of the other info as well. I will attach a pic of a similar mantle from this time frame that I have ran across.

I can see that the top and bottom are a match. The top section has the same flower design. The flower design is just below the mantle and also on both sides of the mirror. Here are other Akins mantles with a mirrors.

Forgot to welcome you to the forums, Welcome! Are you in Moss Point? If you are, we are neighbors, albeit very distance neighbors. I'm in the extreme NW corner of Mississippi- just south of Memphis.

Put a set of ventless gas logs in there. I did up my fire place with them and they are a wonderful heat source.
Plus the screen makes a great place to dry socks! :)

And very efficient and economical - I do believe mine were 92% efficient and those are about 8 years old.
