Aquitaine......You can't imagine how exciting this is for me. I'm learning A LOT , and excited about the possibilities, yet it's a see-saw feeling with Polishing being bad and Clash being good. For a coin novice like me , it can bed confusing. Does polishing reduce value by more then clashing increases it? I'll keep everybody posted on whats happening in regards to this coin.

Greg, I have a shoebox full of stamps, both foreign and domestic, mostly corners of envelopes torn off. That is my next project. I don't expect any "finds" but then again I don't know what to look for "yet". I also have a bunch of letters from my great aunt whom took to her bed in the 30's or 40's after her son died. She spent her time writing to Kings, Queens, Popes and Business execs, and got replies from all of them. among the things I have found so far......A personally blessed rosary from the pope. Many thank you notes from the queens ladies in waiting. ( she sent the queen Avon Skin so Soft for her Silver Jubilee). She sent the President of Chessie Systems Railroads a letter asking them to please change the logo on their RR Cars since the cat reminded her of her poor dead cat fluffy every time it passed the house.

    Hi Digger,
Shame the envelopes were not saved. I have several hundred tore off also. Good luck digging you never know what you might find.

    Hi KoT,
That is why it is a treasure hunt for some people and a pile of crap for others. The Dixie cup covers were a shock to me, I figured maybe 5 to 10 dollars at the most. One sold for over 600 dollars and I thought I heard of everything.

It might be fake, it might be real, it might fetch $1,231.00 like the one in your link, it might fetch $100.
I would look at it as being worth a $1 and anything above that is a bonus.
    Good luck.

Back to the original Morgan. It looks Chinese to me. Check to see that it's actually real first. Die dings are pretty common on the fakes.

Hi Terry: Seems ok with a few basic tests. It is not attracted by a magnet and its weights is 26.6 grams, just slightly under the official weight, which seems fine for a circulated coin. We've seen quite a few fakes here (sadly), although they are usually easy to detect with a magnet. I just double checked this one with a magnet to be sure. It did match the dimensions of a good comparable. ... Dave

Reading some more about fake Morgans (https://www.jmbullion.com/morgan-silver-dollar-fake-tips/) it is disturbing to see that some of the fakes are actually made with high grade silver. If you spot anything else suspicious with mine, let me know. I can get accurate measurements of the thickness and diameter. ... Dave

I usually spot them first just by the coloring. Then by smell. They usually smell like stinky brass.

Photo colors of mimic the colors of fakes.

LOL! Btw, thank you for all the help KoT! It will be interesting to see what happens with it on eBay. Almost time to go home - we had a power outage mid-day that lasted about an hour and made things a bit more interesting! This area still recovering from the big storm, and another one is almost here! Take care ... Dave
