Thanks for taking the time to look, hoping someone will recognize this pattern, it is over sized for a butter dish overall 10" long x 5 wide, many thanks regards joe. SAM_0796.JPG SAM_0797.JPG

Is there a vent hole in the lid? May have been a cheese dish.

In the 1970s and 80s a lot of stuff like this came out of Italy and Portugal.
It could also be a little earlier; MIJ for one of the stores like Sears, Liberty House, Montgomery Wards, Pennys.

Just throwing that out there in case it jogs someone's memory.

Welcome Joe! I agree with cluttered and am leaning towards Japan. Unfortunately, it's not the type of dish that would stand up to any tough handling. They have a kind of brittle feel to them. It's unusual to find these without some chips somewhere. As for the pattern I guess it's kind of a fall motif - acorns and wheat. Wheat patterns were very popular in the 1950's - 1980's. I would say it's a display dish for cold, dry items - unless it's deeper than it looks. Maybe cheese and crackers or cold cuts.

Hi Joe, the motif is wrong but I think the size would fit a sardine tin.
