Earring -- thinking older and updated. Thoughts?

Got this about a year ago at the GW, you better believe I looked for the match. It was in a box of loose pieces, no luck so just have the one earring.

First thought was it was 1920s. It's pretty nicely made, and the pierced post would argue for maybe a 1990s redo, but looking at the back it seems like it was possibly added later.

Thoughts on age? Also what do you think the stone is?

Here is a photo in direct sun:

And a photo of the back:

Possible that post was added to an older piece?

    Are these two rings soldered?
If so, then I vote older. If not then maybe newer made to look old.

I wasn't totally sure from the front, but if that post is original this was probably done in the 1990s.

Sorry for the late response. DH just inspected it with a loupe, and said: "Soldered. Very, very nicely."

I have to say when I first saw this my heart leapt in a way that 1920s jewelry can only do. Kind of an obvious quality, in the hand. But started to 2nd guess because aren't pierced posts a newer thing?

All I can think of is someone had these amended. The post is a different color and you can sort of see some kind of different colored material where it hooks on.

Of course I just have "one" earring. Which probably reduces value by about 90%.

Need a photo with good lighting on the post area, looks like the post could be a replacement.

If it were mine, I would take round nose pliers and bend the post into a circle, add a jump ring and wear as a drop.
This is what I use, others may have another favorite

If the post should break off, then take it to a jeweler and have a loop put on properly. (it shouldn't if you bend slowly and not forcefully)

Don't know what happened to my previous post?
Was saying the post was a little unusual. Pierced earrings have been around for a long time.
Both my great grandmother and her daughter, my grandmother had pierced ears and expensive jewelry. I remember wondering as a small child if they were born that with holes in their ears and why mine didn't have holes. When I was about 12 my grandmother offered me a pair of earrings that I had long admired - if I had my ears pierced!
So yes, they have been pierced since 1950 - and grandmother's earrings are in the safe.
