I have this framed photograph under glass from 1899 of the Marlborough Brook Filter Beds, in Marlborough, MA. They used these beds to help filter the water before it entered the Sudbury Reservoir.

I found a Wikipedia page and a Facebook page that said it was entered into the national Historic Register in 1990.

Should I list this under Historic Memorabilia - Cities and Towns as well as antique photographs?

What would you start the auction at? I don't want to do a 99 cent start because I get very little traffic. I'm not a power seller and I don't do Global shipping so I'm at the bottom of the search list.

With the glass, this thing will weigh close to 9 pounds. If someone from the area buys it, the shipping won't be to high. If it ships out of State, it will be very high. Do you ever remove old glass to keep shipping costs down? Thank you.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Nice... I'm not a seller, but I would list it under both categories if I were.

I'll let others address the idea of the glass and shipping.

The glass has to stay there unless it's broken. As to the 99 cent start, I wouldn't unless you want it to sell for 99 cents because these days you may only get one bid. Reserves mean no bids or no sale. Sell for the minimum you'd be happy with. Shipping on something like this is going to be the bear. If you can sell it locally or consign it somewhere I'd probably go that route. You might get less, but it'll be worth it not having to deal with the shipping.

Have you checked usps priority flat rate & regional flat rate boxes lately - they have some larger shallower boxes now

Not that big; if this weighs nine pounds chances are it's pretty large. UPS ground might be a better bet in this case. The packing case for a framed print can be rather expensive, so you'll have to factor that in too.

Yes, it is large. The box is 27" long. To CA with Fedex, it is going to cost over $20 but that isn't as bad as I thought it would be. For some reason, I thought Fedex started using the dimensional weight already but it isn't for another month or two. It will probably double after that. I always print labels online to get the savings. It helps offset ebay's final shipping fee.

You should let the Marlborough Historical Society have a crack at it. They don't always look at Ebay, so I'd contact them and let them know it's available. I'm VP of my local Hist. Soc. and we're always on the lookout for stuff like this.
