    HiAll
Today while thrifting I saw a very impressive heavy bronze sculpture (though painted black) of a rabbit hiding from a fox (or a dog)...signed or inscribed as "J.Mougiung "
Unfortunately couldn't take a PIC ...but I wanted to know more on the theme of the sculpture...I.e the rabbit hiding from the fox which seems imitated by many artists..which is the original work and by whom? I probably may buy this piece that I saw as I liked it very much but if possible I want to know more about the artist..does J.Mougiung ring a bell?
    Thanks in advance!

19th C French bronzes were so often of animals that the term 'animalier bronzes' entered the trade lexicon.

THe name sounds wierd. A mixture of French and German and not like a real name at all.

I have seen French items attributed to Aine (Senior) Fills (son) and Brevete (patent) not to mention Aguilles (Hands) and I am wondering if the last few letters are an abbreviation added to the Mougin name that would make sense in French.

Of course, it could quite possibly be a modern copy in the French style with a vaguely deceptive name chosen by a Chinese factory to whom it would not sound so odd.

Thanks ..quite possible...the black paint was wearing off in some places showing the bronze colour inside...maybe suggests sign of age(or to make the impression of..)...but i don't recall any patina...I will try to take a PIC next time so as to see it closely..
