    Hi all,

Can anyone lend their expertise and share some info about these two nightstands?
They are deceivingly heavy for their size and the only markings are those on the back. I’m always curious about the story of my possessions :)

    thanks!

There's no stamp on the inside of the top drawer?

    My guess on the markings.
    195 is the style #
Satin Walnut and Antique Oak are the color stains. Does there appear to be even the slightest difference of color? The pictures make them look the same.

I believe the numbers on the bottom may be date codes. Sept 1967 and Jan 1968.
Which would be the right time period for the style with those short legs.

I would have dated them at late 60s, early 70s.

I think these are early 1980s, the darker one is the walnut finish. I think there is laminate (faux wood) involved, and not just veneer and this is the reason I've dated them to be a bit more recent, than Cluttered did.

Well, the darker one SHOULD BE the walnut finish stain, but it may not be.

I think 67 and 68 are the years they were made. They were still making them with wooden backs in those days.
As to color, they could either be refinished, they could have changed the name of the stain, or they could have been so similar in the first place that age made them even more so.
I think of Heywood Wakefield's Wheat and Champagne stains - they're often very hard to tell apart without looking at the back for the stamp.

    good point!

The drawer fronts look newer than MCM to me..

I wouldn't consider these to be MCM in design.
Late 1960s is moving into the sleek Swedish Modern type of look.
I am Not saying these are Swedish Modern.

Oh, ok, thanks! I don't remember the faux wood laminate manufactured for furniture before the 1980s. The drawer fronts appear to have been fabricated from molded something faux wood laminate.

Cluttered, no, I'd never think you were saying that! ;)
When do you remember seeing the faux wood laminate?

Thanks Book, I just saw the plywood on the backs, rather than a composite wood material like masonite.

I'm not sure I know. It might have arrived with stapled furniture.

Agree that those are probably the dates stamped on the back. Can't tell you who made them. Decent quality but would guess the heavy weight due to particle board in the carcass.

Maybe made in Canada with "inspector" and "Inspecteur" on the stamp?
