    Hello,

I am new to the site and the world of antique furniture. I recently purchased a dresser which I was told was an antique. All I know was the piece was purchased in an auction in the UK 13 years ago. Any info on how old or where it may have originated from would be great. Also what finish would you recommend?

    Thanks

Looks more like a buffet than a dresser?

Very well could be. I'm in the process of stripping off the paint the previous owner had put on it. I'm not sure what finish to apply after. Any recommendations?

From what I can tell it might be 1920s Tudor revival.

Sure that mirror really goes with this? Pic is so small that I can't really tell. This looks like a typical server for a dining room but not with a mirror like that. Likely walnut veneers and solids with lesser wood stained to match. You may need to put some color back in to this to get a good look. Once the color is right, you would need to put some kind of clear-coat for protection. On old furniture, I prefer a tung-oil based varnish. It can be purchased outright or you can make your own (equal parts oil-based varnish, tung-oil, and mineral spirits).

The mirrors seem to be an original part of it or it was well fitted after. Any idea what value a unit like this would be worth after bringing it back to life? What colour would you recommend?

Dressing table. Or at least, that's what it's been made into if the mirror isn't original, close ups of the fitting are needed. But I think the mirror probably started life with it.

Early 20th, but I need to see the drawers better please.

Would have been dark brown, the colour depends on what you plan to do with it. If you're keeping it, do what goes with what you have. If selling, I'd offer it unfinished and let the buyer choose.

Over here, not a vast value.

It looks like something from a dining/living room to me too. No place under it for a chair/stool. I'd second the above - if you're keeping it, do whatever you like. If selling, leave it stripped and let the buyer do what they want to it, unless you're in the business like Brad.

Thanks all. I think I will leave the mirrors off and modify it to be a drinks cabinet. Not sure what way I'll finish it yet
