    The maker would be completely immaterial..

    This sort of thing is bought for what it is , not who made it (some blokes in a shed somewhere)

    Hmmm... I used the pic the OP posted in message #15 in my #33 reply. Has there been one posted since then? I haven't kept up with the forums as of late because am at the moment scaring dolphins in the southern reaches of the sunshine state. A couple of days ago I did try again to ID this maker's mark from the limited online sources. The closest I could come up with was that of "Britton, Gould and Co." of Birmingham. One of the maker's mark they used on sterling was "B, G & Co" in the same shape cartouche. I couldn't find a definite silverplate mark by them. They were in operation at the time this chatalaine was made. I have seen several BG & Co. in a clover shape cartouche that have been erroneously attributed to Britton that were really the mark of Boardman, Glossop & Co.

    BTW, Kirki, welcome to the forums. This is a lovely chatalaine. As others have suggested I wouldn't replate, just polish.

    Not harming, scarring, but terrorizing, scaring to death. In other words when I enter into the Gulf waters the passing dolphins run with fear and some wise-cracker always hollar, "Thar she blows!"
