2 decorative tiles 1 Italian 1 Swiss

Bought these at a yard sale today. The tile is Made in Italy, and I just liked it. It seems to me to be done in a southwest motif.
The little bird tile is framed in pewter and I assume it is swiss, again I just liked it. Any Information would be helpful. Don't think there is much to say about the Swiss bird one, but the Italian one seems interesting.

 

Had you not told me it's Italian, I'd have thought done in a mid-western state.

 

The Swiss one is indeed Swiss, made in Luzern, one of those beautiful towns in Switzerland.

 

Or any place but the Southwest - any native of that area would automatically have placed the chimney at the corner of the building....knowing instinctively that kivas are not placed in the centre of a room but in an outside corner as a rule

on the other hand, I agree - I just like it!

 

Yes that is strange chimney placement. I am not familiar with adobe huts.

 

I suspect it's meant to depict Etna - little souvenir piece.

 

There is smoke from the chimney, not the mountain.

 

By cracky! I think it is Mt Etna. Fanciful view from the castle in Cantania? I forget where N/S/E/W are in relation.

Looking at Italian Art Tiles......I've found that there are more depicting the American Southwest themes then Italian themes. There are Native Anericans, Cowboys, Many depicting the "end of day" Bronze, California Mansions and the Santa Fe Storyteller and Cacti. And those are just the ones I remember.

 

Have been seeing those 'Southwest' themed tiles since the '80s-'90s, pretty sure they're still in production - they're American, fired on Italian tiles...

Thanks Cheryl.......I bet that company did make my tile. The backs look the same. It has grown on me and will now be used as a trivet! I'm liking the colors!
