    Hello everyone,

We found this rug in the attic and can't work out where it's from, whether it's old or worth having restored. It appears to be wool and hand loomed. It's about 6 metres long and 1 meter wide. I'd love to know if the patterns on it mean anything too. Some of them look like whales or islands but I doubt that's what they are :). Thanks in advance for any insights you may have.

I can take more photos if it helps.

    Thanks

Welcome, Scot. Too bad about the wear and other damage. Does any of the pictures show the underside?

    Hello Bakersgma,

Thanks for your reply. I've added 3 more photos showing the back of the rug. It's generally in better condition than the front.

    Thanks, Scot.

The very bright colors are from chemical dyes. So 20th century.

Is there no fringe, either end?

I doubt very much that any of the shapes was intentionally a whale. ;)
