So I have a claw from a jaws of life. I am looking to see if anyone in the fire industry or knowledge of Hurst knows an age on this thing. Also does it even have any value.

A Indy 500 invention later used in drag racing, and other types, began in the 60s so this could be early but I doubt it has much value.
    Ask them. :)

Possibly not, but I'll bet some racing junkie would love having it. I can just see some dirt track collector hanging that in his garage.

Some years ago, while I had a B&M shop, a neighborhood guy (new apartment owner) came in for some "dishes with character" but not flowery feminine stuff. While discussing the blank wall in his new, but tiny kitchen he was lamenting the fact that the only decor he could find was the advertising poster, hanging plates, sconces, and kitchen utensil variety.

I took him in the back room - and what transpired shall never speak it's name................

No, seriously, I showed him a pile of rusted tool boxes stuffed with rusted wrenches, pliers, hammers, soldering irons, hand saws, gears and at al. It took the guy who worked for me two hours to wax a finish on the tools we selected, and me two hours to find an arrangement we agreed on, and him $400 - but he got a singularly masculine and very interesting accent wall.............

I'm thinking that rusted 'tools' such as kitchen items, irons, waffle makers, toasters and the like wouldn't thrill you much on your wall Judy. ;)

Personally, I'd rather hang all my baking pans out where I can get them than some artistically "distressed" antique kitchenalia that can't really be used. But that's just me.

I fully agree - and my theory has always been that if you have to move two items to get to the one item you want, you WON"T, thus that item will never be used and you shouldn't own it any longer. Of course MY solution that that as this:

    MVC-271S.JPG

And then there are the things I don't use often, but HAVE to see so I know I own them:

OOPS! Some often used stuff that I forgot..........................

    thank you!

and yes, that is dust on the lid of the cast iron dutch oven in the third to last photo..................

I think I was careful enough to edit out any photos that showed the condition of the floor...............and its history of what I have had to eat for the past three months...................

I am amazed at how neat that all looks! I don't have the wall space for it, but it looks great in your place!

    Hi Mansons,
GREAT kitchen. Reminds me of mine in Brooklyn same stove but less stuff. Most of it was in a cupboard in the dining room. My kitchen was 5ft by 6 ft. When opening the oven door I had to stand in the dining room. It was tiny but I used to get sit down dinners for 30 people. My dining room was 25 ft by 30 ft. At least the living room was huge. It was 30 ft by 45 ft. Of course the bed room was 6 ft by 8 ft. It was the second floor apartment of a four storey brownstone. I loved the 12 ft ceilings though as well as the two fireplaces.

Thanks! Please keep in mind that the only thing in the room aside from the stove, was the sink and the (awful) black cabinet under it. I designed and built (such as it is) everything myself, but had to do it on the VERY cheap. Including ripping the plasterboard down over the sink to allow some light in the (windowless) butlery/breakfast room.

Be advised - the neatness is an emotional condition resulting from some moderate to severe OCD, ergo NOT an option........:(:(

Yeah Greg - I have the same size issues, though my kitchen is larger, I could literally fit 5 of my kitchens in my living room..........

I don't collect stuff - I inherit stuff..............and I have been fortunate enough to have divested myself of two thirds of it, but as you can see, I have a long way to go.................the butlery and the Great Hall of China are jammed, as are the two hutches and two sideboards in the dining roomm.

The stove would drive me bonkers, but the rest...hmmm...if I was still up to it I'd be getting ideas. My tabletop oven lives on my unheated porch; it goes to work during the summer, and there's no point bringing it inside the rest of the time. The crock pot hides in the basement. The pans are piled under the wall oven; my kitchen doesn't have nearly enough storage for all the stuff. All that pegboard looks like "yes please".

Oh, that unmentionable stove..........The last tenant left it and I had/have no funds left after buying the refrigerator (which I got a deal on because it was used and had no handles). Fortunately, when attempting to sell the oven, the only person interested HAD the oven but wanted an original stand to go with it, I had no room for the stand, but wanted the oven (see STOVE). Serendipity!

The fridge is on an angle, because I HATE wasted corners. The only "corner" space is in the angle where the stove bit and the sink counter meet - and I have only to remove two two things to get at the really big covered roasters. I refuse to own anything that I will usebut has to be stored anyplace but where it is to be used. I have a full basement (both full and full) but do NOT store anything I wish to keep or use in it. The only "dead" storage is for seasonal things such as holiday decor, etc., and that is not in the basement (I have a linen room and a Christmas room).

I am rather "proud" that the peg board looks more intentional than practical, if that makes sense. I smacked it up in places where it can't even be used, but it adds some continuity to the space. Since I sell, but have strong OCD issues, when I sell something the peg board allows me to rearrange EVERYTHING to accommodate the empty space.

PLEASE remember that this room has not been painted since before I moved in - the red was there and knowing that it would take some time (but NOT 10 years!) to get it painted, I "designed" around it.

I think I have photos of the "raw" space on my forum..........and must add these as well.

I really must get up there and look at some of the crocks/crockery..there may be a hidden treasure, no? I also keep forgetting to ask about that basket with hinged lids that sits over the door to the butlery.................

so much crap, so little time.....................
