    Nothing more that it is definitely from one of the Victorian genres...............and that it is SCREAMING to be re-upholstered in tomato red plush.............

    Boy, is THAT an understatement!

    But I love the piece - BTW, I'd call it a settee as opposed to a couch

    Johnny has this right. A closer look at the egg motif on the crest might possibly attribute this to Prudent mallard's workshop. Much of his furniture incorporated a duck egg with a diagonal ribbon across it. This settee is probably a bit late for the workshop's hey-day and, although the chance is slight, being from there is within the realm of possibility .
