Good Morning - I decided to buy this adorable little piece of furniture because it had been beautifully re-upholstered in my color scheme. A piece of fabric covers the bottom (charcoal color) like modern furniture, that I wouldn't want to disturb. It's tiny. 36" h x 66" l x 28" d. I suspect it's a replica. Any way to tell without removing the fabric covering the underside? Thanks :) 20200616_070144.jpg

If it's original, it probably would have had coil and web construction. If you run your hand along the underside fabric, you would be able to feel the 3-4" wide straps of the webbing that holds the coil springs. That may not be a guarantee one way or another either, as sometimes the springs are shot and replaced with slab foam.
The color harmony in your room is great and this piece fits right in. Enjoy!

Fun piece. The furniture people will get here in time. Meanwhile, what units are you measuring in? It could be dollhouse furniture from what's given.

Sure. Inches. That's my living room next to staircase. Not dollhouse :)

Thanks! Heard a spring when I sat on the left end of it. Felt underneath. Two boards running lengthwise springs can be felt above them. Boards replaced webbing in restore/repair perhaps?

Modern springs run horizontally in parallel lines to the frame and are constructed in a zig-zag pattern. Earlier coil springs were set vertically, sewn to the webbing, and laced together for stability. It's possible that the webbing was worn and replaced by boards.

They are vertical. Well I'm surprised. I thought Victorian furniture was big and this is very small - could it be a child-sized version? It's perfect for my home. I love it. Any idea on age?

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

At one time I had a BOAT LOAD of Victorian furniture, and the settees like yours were small!! Mom & Dad gave us our first furniture and that's what it was....it fit fine in our small first Cape house!! One of them was exactly like yours.....! Yep, they were kinda low and small!!!

Pics not sufficient to evaluate. Can we see some close-ups of wood/carvings, where the leg joins the front, and underside where foot joins?

sorry. This is the best I can do without taking it apart. Looks like I'll get some casters for the feet that will make it a little taller 20200619_161327-1.jpg 20200619_161111-1.jpg 20200619_161327-1.jpg 20200619_161111-1.jpg 20200619_161052-1.jpg 20200619_161042-1.jpg

I think this is old, if not a true antique. No reason to think modern reproduction.

Would guess that this is a loveseat, part of a larger parlor set made ca. 1870 that would have included armchairs, side chairs, and possibly a sofa. The wood trim is walnut. Value these days would be minimal because of the poor market; this is a nice piece and you have it displayed well.
