if anyone can help with information on this piece it is appreciated. As far as age scene or anything else. No signature found. Just tag on back that says George’s but don’t think that has much to do with anything. Measures 35 by 41 inches it is pretty big 30B27FDB-672C-452A-A8DE-6236F7DAA2A0.jpeg 8D40496D-2D9A-4896-AE27-2E85204392A4.jpeg 30DB7ECE-B917-4319-9546-6577F8EF8F8F.jpeg 0F5A1C2D-EB08-43B4-803A-8AF78726E7C4.jpeg F8D05F4B-3475-406A-9B29-C76CD2A7C973.jpeg

Saint Gabriel? Are you sure it’s not a print?

A scene that's been painting many times. If you haven't done so already, I suggest you do a Google Images search to see if it's a copy.

@Debora i have already done a image search with no results. I think maybe French school painting. Possibly relined

Looking at Mary's face, head, neck & how her neck attaches to the rest of her, I think this is an amateur attempt. Perhaps the painter was George.

Could be wrong, was thinking Italy maybe. Indeed, 35" x 41" is fairly large piece.

@Bronwen take a look at all these religious paintings most of the time on older pieces the proportion is pretty weird especially in the babies and hands

@Bronwen notice the hands in that one.....don’t let that deter you from this

But aren't these the same scene, just reversed? And with different cropping? (Sorry. Confused.)

Typically, religious paintings were meant to be seen from below so the proportions may seem odd at eye level.

@Debora do you know how to tell if relined.....notice the difference in color to the wood on stretcher. Also seems it might of had repair at some point. But can’t tell if relined

I'm afraid I don't know or am I even able to make an educated guess. But sure someone else can be more helpful.

The tendon in the neck of the Angel Gabriel in OP's painting convinces me it is not by an accomplished painter. Better than anything I could do, but still practice work. Compare to the 'school one.'

Two copies. Then there is an original somewhere.
