well they made their own product but I would call them reproductions.
Some pieces from Bombay Co sell on ebay nicely. Check out the sold listings to see if yours is one of them.

I liked it because it is very heavy, solid and well made. What tricked me is usually newer reproduction pieces have philips head screws and this one did not have any phillips head screws and the handle seemed oxidized (blackened in spots) and had some verdigris on it. It was a $50 mistake with shipping, but I will still use it for storing things. Sometimes I win and sometimes I lose, lol.

Thank you so much. All of you here are amazing and very helpful people. I feel like an idiot because I paid around $50 bucks for it. These type of lessons always teach me something though.

Where I live I never once seen a Bombay store. I'm glad I never went in there because I hate crowds, lol.

Don't feel bad, everyone here, I dare say has overpaid at one time or another.
I think Bombay Co had a store in Roosevelt Field Mall on LI or in some mall on LI long ago.
I think Wayfair may sell some of their products now.

I am OCD when I have a box with a lock and no key. Missing keys drive me crazy, lol. I am going to rub some patina on the key with some rub n buff to give it that old world look.

Thanks for making me feel better. I hate when I buy things and realize I screwed up after the fact. Thank goodness it doesn't happen that often.

Oh yes you are right! I live on Long Island, but never went in there. The last time I went to a mall was when I was a teenager and that was a long time ago. The Bombay Co. store would have not have appealed to me at the time, lol :D

As pearls said, we've all made mistakes and bought things that weren't what we initially thought. Join Antiquers and learn. Wait a minute, you're already here.:playful:
Maybe get a simpler key, more in keeping with the style of the box?

I've made my share of those, but it's a useful box.

I have a $50 print stored my basement for which I shouldn't have paid more that $15.
It's actually quite nice but I don't have anywhere to put it. I had bought it for resale, thinking I'd make a tidy profit. Oh well, the frame may come in handy one day.
