Wooden plate

Help to ID plate Finland

Welcome Sonja. It is a cute handpainted souvenir from Finland, featuring a Sami in traditional dress, reindeer pulled sled, and an equally traditional Sami tent in the background.
Nice work in an attractive naive style, but it is likely you will never find who MN is.

Hi Sonja!

Welcome to Antiquers.........

Years ago, on my first trip to Stockholm, Sweden, I was fortunate enough to take the Midnight Sun Train Tour to Narvik, Norway, crossing the Artic Circle. I was fortunate enough to have seen some Laplanders in their Native dress.

I have a tiny collection of souveniers of Lapland that I've been fortunate enough to have found here in the US over the years.

I love your plate.

I don't know who the artist was on your plate but I think you have the initials upside down based on the periods. I think it's N.W. I did find another plate with the same initials but no further ID.

On an educational note, I learned that Suomi means Finland in Finnish.

I love that one too!

I have a similar type from Sweden, and although condition is not good, I love it just the same.

"Hello my little sugar pie"

Mine is a shallow wooden bowl.

Sorry, I posted the photos from the Gallery. I didn’t notice it was upside down.

Very nice. Very sweet Judy.

Funny that they are the kind of initials that look right either way

Thank you Pearls!

That's sweet of you to say.l
