I don't know where to ask about this. The box is made of some kind of stone. Inside is turquoise. Stands 3 3/4" tall and measures 5" x 3 2/3". 1 7/8" deep. Has claw feet. There are no marks. What kind of stone is on the outside?

Looks kind of like marble on the outside; I'm hesitant to say it's turquoise on the inside without better photos, if it is turquoise it isn't the highest quality. :)

I do think it looks like marble on the outside. Thanks

I think it is marble and the inside looks the same, only dyed. Probably Italian.

I agree it's Italian, and probably 1960s, but more likely to be alabaster. There was and is a big thing for this dyed look, too.

The outside was dyed blue too originally, from the look of it. The dye was fugitive, i.e. sun sensitive, and faded out to the original material. It was probably made for those short filterless cigarettes, back when, and came with a matching lighter.

Evelyb, didn't think of the box being for smokes...it does look like the right size

Good point on the colour. My dad was in the print trade: blue was the least stable colour.
