Lapis1.jpg Lapis2.jpg Hi, I saw these lapis necklaces at a consignment store, but they are more expensive than I want to spend. So I took a couple pictures instead, to please see if anyone thinks these beads are anything worthy of spending money on? I would probably ditch the metal parts, they look like rusty tin. Would these be from India?

I'm going with the round ones being glass and the tubular ones...glass as well.......from what I can see !

Ok, thanks! I will check that out when I return. The closest one with tubular beads is the only one I would consider, the price should be a bit less than marked. It's filthy too!

The disk shaped beads in the foreground look like glass to me, although they might be trade beads. The one in the middle with spherical beads looks promising for lapis; I like the color variation. Can't see the third one well enough.

The bells are from Ghana, the pendants (prayer boxes?) could be from somewhere else (Western Asia?), but it is difficult to say without a closer view. The beads could all be glass, in trade bead style. A lot of 'coulds', sorry.

Thank you all - AJ, Bronwen, Komo, I am finally trying to learn about how to spot some of the pretty costume jewelry that has value. This has been very helpful.

Looking & considering again, & taking into account other beads they are strung with, I'm strongly leaning toward glass on the middle strand too.

Thanks, Bronwen. I will take another look when I return later in the week. The prices are under ten bucks each, they've been displayed in the consignment store for a while now. IF lapis, I thought they could be worth that?

This my first foray into looking at lapis beads, I've always loved the cobalt blue colors.

When searching for lapis, look for glimmering pyrite inclusions, like bits of metal in the stone.;)

None of the necklaces shown above are Lapis Lazuli; why don't you try an auction house, they often have Lapis Lazuli beads necklaces

Thank you, AJ, I will keep that in mind. Much appreciated.

Thanks for your suggestion, Komo, I will, if they are..

Thank you for looking MaJa, I'm not "in the market" for lapis, just learning about how to recognize it. I am only just learning about beads and costume jewelry. :shame:
