It's that time of year again when it's hot outside and the silver plate needs cleaned. I need some advice on the best way to clean the design areas on things like tea pots and so forth. I've been trying a medium toothbrush but that just doesn't seem to do the job well enough. Any suggestions appreciated.

    Hi Chris,
I have been polishing silver for over 70 yrs now.. A lot of times the designs have a "filler" in them so they "show" better. If they do not polish out I do not remove them. Perhaps yours is that type.

Leaving the nooks and crannies alone provides the proper 3 dimensional effect the manufacturer intended. I never bother with them. Not to mention that silver polish invariably gets stuck in there and creates that whitish look that is the bane of the silver maven's existence. ;)

Thanks to both of you. I'm sure you're right about filler and 3D effect. I never gave either any thought. That will make the polishing go somewhat faster.
