Chinese Box

    I purchased this about 10 years ago in Shanghai China. I needed something to hold keys at my entryway and thought this was a good size so bought it at an antique store. I thought it was unusual since it looks like there is detailed painting on the box but overpainted with some really bad details. Any ideas why this was done?     Sorry but the signed in the second image got me concern. Nice box though

    I think the decoration is fairly consistent; as produced IMO

    Although I agree that there is a difference in finesse between the gold-coloured outlines and the lacquer 'blotches', I agree with blooey, this is how it was made originally.
