SilverPlate Pot?

    Hi All,
    I think with the A1 in the marks this piece is silver-plate? Is that correct? This isn't mine, a friend is in a store that is auctioning it off as sterling, I told him not to bid, the starting bid is $150
    I think the crown means Sheffield plate?
    any information appreciated

    Looks like Prime is the maker. The A1 is a key indicator for plate. In the US it designates the application of "standard" plating - not too thick, not too to thin.

    thank-you Bakers:) I was trying to find the maker but I suck at finding them in silver plate:)

    IF this were sterling (which we know it is not) and had the crown as the city mark, it would be for Sheffield assay office, yes. But there is no "meaning" for any of the marks on silver plate in the UK, unless they are those made up by the individual maker.

    Even true Sheffield plate does not have the crown mark to designate it.

    That store is making false claims. It's blatant misrepresentation.
