I bought a 1881/2 Ansonia mantle clock. Everything seems to be in working order, just need a pendulum (and a glass door).

    What kind do I need?

Look around for a clock repairman. Here in my area we have Barry Hutchinson. I had to get a pendulum replaced in a mantle clock that my dad gave my daughter. I'm sure there are guys in your area. They don't always advertise.

Well, as long as the mechanism doesn't need to be adjusted. You have to get the right weight in order for it to work properly.

It mainly needs to be the right length. Looking at your picture you appear to have the crutch and leader. The crutch is the bit attached to the escapewheel that swings back and forth, and the leader is the flexible bit the pendulum bob hangs from. Your cruch appears to be missing the loop at the bottom that the leader goes through.

Google a few of these terms to get a better idea what is going on.

If I had that I'd form a new loop at the bottom of the existing crutch and find any reasonable sized bob and adjust the length till it keeps time.

The crutch has a crook for the leader to rest in. I have a bob somewhere, two infact, I just can't remember where I've put them up, but they are to clocks I already have.

I do need a new leader for my Waterbury clock, its a flexible one like this one, but I can't seem to find them online..

Would this bob work for the ansonia?

    It should do the job.
You can make a leader from a piece of mild steel rod about the diameter of the one on the clock you have,(1/16th in,) heat and hammer the end so you have a couple of inches of flexible metal at the top. Takes practice to keep it straight. Or improvise one with steel rod and a piece of watch spring.

I'll try to dig out my clock....if memory serves the weight is smaller & on a threaded metal wire..

There's a guy online who sells the convex glass. You have to give him the name and model of your clock. I found him by googling around.

    Hi,
Look up Merritt's in Douglassville Pa. I have been buying clock parts from them for 40 years. I always get the catalog but I believe they are on line also. They were a wonderful antique place with 10 or 11 large barns and shops. They have a huge clock business also. They sell antique clocks and newer ones. They have so many parts that you can not find anywhere else. Whenever I go there I end up spending the entire day. I always come home with the car loaded. I found a 46 piece fish set 125 years old for 75 dollars. There were three sizes in the platters from 4ft long to 2ft. They all had wonderful hand painted fish on all the pieces including the melted butter pots.
