I bought this a lot of years ago and was told it was a Victorian till.
There is/was Slot in the lid but not sure why as the lid doesn't lock.
The drawer base is Ply so it might have been replaced but Ply has been around a long time.
It looks like something was once fitted in the drawers so maybe inserts for sliding out coins?
It has nice Dove tailing on the corners but all in all it's a bit rough and I'm hoping to turn it into a sewing box, Haven't decided how yet though.

So any thoughts on it age and original purpose? :)

Most of the wooden shop cash tills I`ve seen were built like a drawer to slide into the counter.
Yours looks like its been stained and adapted, not enough sections inside for £.S.d IMO

    Ok...
I wonder what was inside the drawers?
There's marks at the back and at the sides.

I'm wondering now if its worth the effort of re-purposing and using precious material s.

    I don`t think it is.

I had two similar items a while ago and I couldn`t fathom them out, then realised they were the drawers from either side of a mirrored dressing table from around 1910

    Ok thanks Dave.
Probably not worth the time and effort then :)
