Hey guys, I just wanted to share with you some items on my antique wish list that I have been having an impossible time finding locally, here in Iowa. (I tend not to buy antiques on-line since I am a very tactile shopper as I have to examine it with my own eye and hands before I commit!) I have spoken with antique dealers and pickers with almost 50 years of experience in dealing in antiques, and they have *never* seen these items anywhere in Iowa. Some of the items, when I *do* rarely see them on eBay, they quickly command several hundred dollars more than they are worth (even for very shabby specimens that can no longer be used!) when the buyers usually, I have seen, simply hang them around for display, rather than actually using them in their kitchen as a utensil. I, on the other hand, want to use them! They are three different patterns of pyrex (the dealers around here *always* know the value of their wares!); vintage butter molds that I am always on the lookout for; Descoware bean pots (I collect all manner of unusual bean pots, because they resemble cauldrons...no one in Iowa has ever seen Descoware before!); and a Griswold cast iron corn bread pan with the wheat stick pattern!

I had the wheat mixing bowls when they were new, 1980s I think. I think only the large one is left. :(

Yeah, I'd break those out seasonally during the harvest seasons while baking if I had them.

Oops! I forgot to include the cranberry corning ware double boiler that I am looking for, since I am a Herbalist!

Though, I die a little inside--hey, I'm a drama queen!--when I see someone pay out hundreds of dollars for vintage kitchenware that they keep only for display, and they never use them. :(

A while back someone posted a link to a site that lists the "hottest" and rarest Pyrex patterns. I was very surprised at how many I had never seen. Very limited production in most cases, though, so that is probably why.

I'm with you on the "use it" imperative.

I keep the Pyrex promotional patterns photos on my phone and reference them if I'm out.

Yes, I'm one of those annoying people who looks things up before they buy or sometimes just out of curiosity when looking at something.

I have the blue & white bowls in my cupboard.
I got them as a wedding gift in 1968, and they are still used occasionally.
    :)

Edit - My point was that 1968 does not make them antique.
    They are "vintage 1960s".

Ah, I tend to use "antique" indiscriminately instead of vintage when I an hurriedly typing. :) But, then again, books from the 90s are being priced as if they are antiques, which is ridiculous!

Leaving some of those sitting on a shelf would be ridiculous to me too. Then again, my old aluminum meat tenderizer was put through a dishwasher by a family member ...dagnabbit.... so some things are probably better off on a shelf. My cornflower Pyrex bits are in use on almost a daily basis. My Griswold skillets don't just sit around either; cast iron begs to be used.

Speaking of "wish lists fulfilled," I had been wanting to replace a very well-used (read worn ) "Bundt pan knockoff" for some time. Found a practically unused, honest-to-God Bundt pan for $4 at an estate sale a couple months ago! Whoot!

Agreed! Either use it, or pass it along to someone who will! :) I never understood those who display kitchenware, rather than using them.

    Nice!

I have a very nice set of Pyrex here with the alternating brownish with gold images and reversed brownish on white in the pattern I think is Colonial? They have coffee grinders and the like on them.

I had no idea that "bundt" was a trademark! (The more you know, LOL!) Sadly, we have very few estate sells that sell anything nice. Oh, it still hurts me to think of all the lovely items from my Great Aunt that were dispersed to the winds. Oy, what hurt most of all is how my Dad didn't seem to want to let me n the house, and only opened the door a crack.

I love Pyrex mixing bowl sets! I have a complete set in the pink gooseberry pattern. (Internet-acquired photo for reference only, blah blah blah.)
