    Hello everyone!

I am trying to learn more about materials used to make jewelry and pottery. I am a total newbie! I recently inquired from the jewelry group regarding a pendant as to whether it was real amber. Today I found an item at online auction in my area. They labeled the item "amber candy dish". I wanted to see if anyone can help me determine whether it is just a color description or if it could actually be amber, and its possible market value...?
I am trying to make a decent financial contribution to our household by working from home and taking care of my girls. SO...I have lots to learn about being a successful online reseller!
Thank you in advance for any pointers you can give me:)

The item is glass and amber is a color description only. To me the dish looks Italian and would fall under the general category of Empoli. A more accurate description for the tag might have been Italian Empoli Glass Amber Candy Dish. If I'm wrong about it being Italian I'm sure others will correct me. Regardless, it's very pretty.

Just a word of advice. These types of glass items can be very tricky to ship. They need to be wrapped very carefully to reach their new homes intact. You'll need to invest in bubble wrap and a box large enough to allow for two internal boxes, one for the bottom and one for the lid. And you'll need to pad both those internal boxes with at least two inches of newspaper on each side. Start saving newspaper for packing now. Don't underestimate your shipping costs or you'll see all your profits evaporate in postage. Good luck with it.

Thanks Don! And yes, I've been focusing on shipping lighter, less fragile items for the same reason...but if I ever find something fragile worth shipping, then I will definitely follow your recommendations!

This type of Italian candy jar is usually popular on ebay. The amber color probably comes from the 1970s when amber and olive green were THE colors. I don't know if it's still true, but at one time they were quite sought after, especially in red blue green or purple. The really expensive ones are cased glass which has a layer of white glass on the inside.

This one looks like cased glass. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Empoli-Ita...=true&nordt=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

    Similar to yours: https://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-MI...=true&nordt=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

and a WOW cased glass example: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Mid-Centur...=true&nordt=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

They're are so Mod!! I just love them.

Thanks Pam! As a kid I always wanted to hunt for lost treasure!!! (but never did...LOL)
Now that I started online reselling, I am so excited to be on the hunt. Of course, I'm not just out for the market value...I would love to find unique and rare pieces too, even if they are not worth much $. Plus one man's trash....

    Y'all are awesome:)
