I'm usually not a stein buyer, but could not pass this up at 99 cents.

The silverplate is worn, glass is perfect, except for some evidence from use on the bottom. The glass is actually what caught my eye, it's really gorgeous. No chips or anything.

Etched with someone's intials, marked on the silverplate in two different places "12V" "12"

    Thoughts or keywords appreciated.

The glass looks a lot like clear Bohemian hot furnace glass circa 1910, blown into a mold, and then had decorative cuts at the fine ridge's ends. The cavity on the base is from a polished pontil area, from the glass rod they blew into and was then cut off, after cooling.

    Does it hold 12 ounces?

Was thinking the 12V might be for "volume" --let me check! Thanks!

Toomany, yes the edges are almost "sharp" to the touch. Could be you are on to something.

Thank you Funkey, posted just as you were posting. Heading out for a few hours just now, but will read when I get back. I appreciate the link.

I'm going to guess (without hands-on) that the entire outer surface (except under the handle) is cut and polished. Look for small facets in the curved portion under the lid. That's quality.

Forgot to say that this Bohemian clear glass stein, imo, had a high crystal like glass composition back then, if you click it, it should have a high note sound, and of course is of fine quality.

The best part is, it holds BEER!
