Antique or repro doll pram?

    Hello, everyone:

Earlier today, I picked up this doll pram at a yard sale. The seller told me it came from the attic of her family's 1880's farmhouse, and that it is quite old. Does this story check out, or is it a 1980's reproduction rather than a 1880's original?

I've been unable to find a match for this pram online. Aside from light rust on the metal parts and a thick coating of dust and cobwebs its condition seems very good, which is a bit worrying to me. On the plus side, the wicker seems to be finished with shellac, rather than a modern stain or other type of finish, and I haven't found any modern fasteners, like Phillips-head screws, only rivets and slot screws. So, perhaps it IS old. I just can't tell...

What do you think? The pram didn't cost a lot, so I won't be devastated if it is modern; I'd just like to know, one way or the other.

    Thanks!

Thank you for the link to the excellent article, Judy. I'm sure you're correct, and it's not antique, but hopefully you can see why things like the all-metal wheels, peened over wheel attachment rather than cotter pins, and canvas rather than leather top threw me. According to the article, these are indicators of an original. I guess this repro is just a little better than some!

As for the bisque doll, I knew it likely dated to the 1960's or 70's, so you're correct that it's not old.

    David......

Many were sold here (USA) in shops, so I have seen them first hand.

I'd be shocked if it were genuine. I've had one.

I have an antique one I pull out for the holidays yearly. It's similar to yours, though with wood wheels. The hood is badly worn from years of being opened and closed and the bucket is also a bit wonky as if a child or two took a ride :).

Yours is cute for display but I think the dust originated in the 80s :).
