Late 19th walking sticks HELP

    been trying to find out more about these canes. What type of wood or bamboo and the striping of the grain. I have looked at 1000's and not seen or missed it. The one has name and date both marked sterling Bernard A. Schmitz also have a german made crop.     No idea, but that crop is a beaut.

    The one on the left looks like malacca cane. It is jointed like bamboo, but is the base of the rattan palm (the vine used to make caning/rattan). The material was imported from areas of southeast Asia around the Malacca Straits, hence the name.

    I guess the segments are man made to taper cane I can see the real segments in between some of them. You see they are all on different angles. I can see no segments in other but it feels very strong.

    This is raw malacca cane. You can see the segment divisions are at various angles.
