Armed forces belt, strap?

Hi y'all. I have this leather strap also found in our storage unit which measures 3" long. This unit had quite a bit of WWI/WWII " stuff." I figured the number may have identified a person whom this belonged to. I've identified one on eBay similar stating " military gun, rifle sling" but cannot find this exact one. I'm more interested in the identification of this but will be listing it for sale. Any one have any specifics on this? As always, thanks for anything you can help with

 

Not to my knowledge. Every military belt I've seen has this type of buckle and my Navy husband has a bunch of them. Army ones look the same. Plus, military issue items have the designation on them someplace.

I'm pretty sure it is just some sort of gun strap but I have aquired a storage unit with this type stuff in it and have been told after the fact that I gave a few choice items away so thought I'd check with all you first to make sure. Plus I don't understand what the numbers signify. But thanks again. I also want to correct that it is 37" long not 3".

 

It looks like a rifle sling, don't think it's military though and newer than WW2.
