Smithsonian excess sale? Pre Columbian stirrup vessel w/Smithsonian tag embedded in it?

I think I found this in a storage unit I won at auction - I've had it so long I don't remember! I know it's a "double stirrup vessel/bird effigy" - but could this be a piece from the Smithsonian? I know they sometimes hold auctions & sell of some of their excess collections to make room/raise money for more.
I ask because it has a Smithsonian medal or tag or medallion embedded into it on the underside! I've googled it trying to see if it was a souvenir - or a excess inventory sale - but found nothing anywhere about the medallion placed in it.
Has anyone heard of this? Is it a real piece of pre columbian or a souvenir?

they stick their tags into stuff sold at the museum gallery ....not old collection items......

 

Collection items would be numbered.

I have a genuine Chimu vessel somewhere and althoughthe form is similar that seems to be a far fetched parody of the early design

 

It is a Peruvian souvenir, based on a Pre-Columbian Mochica twin vessel.
The original wouldn't have had a hole in the bottom, of course, and the bottoms would be rounded.
Genuine Mochica pottery always looks perfect, nicely painted, and no blotchy reddish brown finish.
The fun thing with real Mochica twin vessels is, that when you pour liquid from the spout, the parrot (or other bird) makes a whistling sound. We had fun as children doing that (the toys we had....). We were careful, and all our parents' pre-Columbian pottery survived.
