I bought this vase recently, have been studying it a lot, but completely at a loss of what it is. Any help and advise would be greatly appreciated!!!!
It is porcelain in either patinaed bronze or spelter. but parts of metal appear to be adhered to porcelain with some sort of epoxy?! the dusty blue is rather matte robin egg blue, very alike some limoges pottery; the birds and flowers are overglaze enamels, hand painted with lots of skill. the top of the vase was a separate part, glued rather unprofessionally after it clearly came off at some point. and the orange and red semi-ovals at the top do not match at all the rest of the vase ..... there are no marks other than a "check mark" in the clay. my original thoughts were french ... but now not sure at all .... many thanks in advance! a

No problem. Many new members use thumbnails at first. I just wanted you to present your piece in the best way possible. Now if someone knows something to help you they can more easily see what you are talking about.

Looks French in style, the pattern is very Wong Lee.
The base is weird. It should be screwed onto the metal piece. Plus no marks.
That orange brown stuff, perhaps someone tried to hide a chipped area. Can you scratch it off?
Looks like a reproduction to me, never the less it's pretty

When enlarging the picture of the birds, I think I see the edges of transfers. I am not an expert, so I could be wrong. While some of the additions like the overlay of paint on the bird seems to be hand painted, I'm not sure if it is all hand painted.

Its handpainted but the painting is not neetly done. the base, the orange and red decoration at the top is odd. Im affraid its a fake possible made in china in mid to end 20th century. the red collor stamp on the mouth see you also on the canton mass production pieces too. never the less its pretty

The outlines are printed and the colour washed in - bit of a giveaway as to the origin.

    Absolutely!
@AnaK Welcome! Google images for Wong Lee porcelain, they are very prolific... these pieces are often encountered in French “brocante” fairs, sellers trying to pass them for antiques...

Wong Lee pieces are marked. the body of his works shows craquele and the painting is also a bit neater. So im not sure of this is one of his work is

I never claimed it was Wong Lee, only that it's inspired by some of the original patterns.
Obviously a reproduction, but never the less it's a nice decorative piece.
I hope you didn't pay a lot for it @AnaK

good afternoon all - thank you very much for all comments and suggestions! agree with all. did not pay much at all, did not think it was antique due to epoxy type adhesive of metal to porcelain. but was not sure about the hand painting. chinese modern reproduction for decorations make total sense -thank you again! a
