Hertel Jacob Plate Signed by Azella

Here is a very unique, painted plate by Hertel Jacob Porzellan. It appears a person by the name of Azella painted it. I call it unique because I can't find anything like it. Can anyone give me some insight to this plate.

 

My guess is this was sold as a blank white plate, and someone either at home or a studio added the paint. China painting was a major hobby around the turn of the century. Most pieces are floral, some are portraits and the like; I haven't seen too many birds.

 

I'm going to respectfully suggest another option. I don't think the plate is that old. I'm far from an expert on German history but I don't believe Bavaria and Germany would appear in the same mark as early as 1900. To me it looks like a relatively recent mark.

After World War II some of the surviving factories churned out items they thought would appeal to an American audience. Many of these were large chargers and various sized plates that featured hunting scenes: dogs, deer and pheasants mostly. Man cave kind of stuff. As the factory closed in 1979 I'd date this as between 1950 and 1979 and most likely between 1950 and 1968. Chris's page can give you more info on the factory. Again JMHO.
