I was really pleased to spot and win this Staffordshire zebra on eBay. It’s a large fine and rare example. And then it arrived. Seller was great and refunded but such a pity
That must have been such a disappointment. So pretty, it hurts to see it like this. That's wonderful, at least you won't have any hassle. Pity he or she is such a lousy packer.
OMG, so sorry that heppened! But I am admitting to laughing. The look on the horse's face changed dramatically with that break! He is sooooo surprised now! I assume you do not have to return it. Can you just glue it? Not as good as a perfect figure, but sorta OK if you don't look too hard. Where did that tiny white piece come from? That might be harder to glue.
Ouch! That is rather sad and disappointing. Anyone want to speculate how often this sort of thing happens? On some art pottery Facebook groups I follow there are quite a few posts about shipping damage. Never have experienced it myself since I buy locally at auctions, antique stores, and other venues.
I have never seen a Staffordshire zebra before! Sorry you received it broken. Does it have the "small hole" in the bottom? Yes! Before the break he was rolling his eyes back up in his head .. for nothing!
The small bit came from the same break. I have re-glued it and will be putting it on eBay fully described including the photo I posted here. I've told the seller I will let her know if it happens to sell for much. There is a smaller pair selling at Hansons in Etwall next week only 18cm (this is 28cm) estimate £250-£350 and restored and stained. No "small hole"
I've been buying on an off on eBay since 1999. I've had a couple of breakages myself despite good packaging - both were large and heavy items. As for purchases I reckon that you get about one in twenty arrive smashed - usually down to bad packing. Once got a rare Minton blue and white platter worth about £500 for £20 and it arrived in ten pieces. It's quite a high rate but if you are buying from personal rather than professional sellers they often have no idea of either fragility or value.
I have shipped probably 400+ items in the last couple of years, and only 1 damaged, and I know that was my fault. Not hard to pack things well.
I think there are a good few treasure hunters here. I do buy and sell via ebay, one thing I always make sure is that irrelevant of cost the things are packed well......Famous last words, now expecting a message from a buyer to advise breakage!!
Oh no!! I‘m so sorry, this is always a nasty shock I have seen a few variations of zebras recently, so maybe you’ll replace it soon. If you’re near London, head to Spitalfields! there’s a lady there who has had a Staf zebra in nice condition and she’s always negotiated with me Good luck!
Agree. I've probably posted over a thousand items over twenty one years with just a couple of breakages. Recently though, some overseas parcels seem to have been opened in transit (Covid?) and one arrived in China with no bubble wrap and another in Lithuania with less packaging than I used (and a loss of £300 to me).
