Hi all was wondering if anyone knew what the blazes this thing is. Solid brass on a marble base. The top moves up and down like a set of scales. Has a stamp in bottom which can't be read 420mm high very detailed with glass beads as seen. 15042490608344.jpg 15042490488893.jpg 15042490372742.jpg 15042490243141.jpg 15042490107450.jpg

I'm not sure this would classify as a mantel lustre, but I'd guess it had a glass cup shaped candle holder hanging from each arm of the scale.

Try to sell it to a steampunk fanatic.

This would be considered steam punk?
My guess would be Hollywood Regency, LOL.

Nah, but I'm sure that there's someone out there who'll want to weld clock gears onto it. :) Get rid of the crystals, add some nice gears, and it'll be...well, something.

My grandparents had one like the one pictured with the lemons.
It sat on top of their living room cabinet with all the barware hidden inside.

Sometimes I question my own taste level. I don't think it's ugly apart from the 20th century quality that's always worse than victorian. Looking back however, I have made some purchases demonstrating bad judgment and taste.

(raises hand) I think it's a bit earlier - late 60s to early 70s. I've seem similar things around here, mostly found in (stereotype alert!) an Italian-american grandma's formal parlor. The one with the plastic covers on all the furniture. The steampunk idea is actually a good one. It's a scale, and it really would work in a goldbergian steampunk contraption that doesn't actually have to do anything.
