I was looking at this ring today at an antique store for $200. I really liked it but thought it looked off? To me the setting doesn't look original? I don't know but I wanted to check in with you all to see what you think! There appears to be a gap on one side of the diamond? The engraving looks to be done by hand. Looked at Lang's maker marks and couldn't figure out the the maker on this one.

komokwa The Truth is out there...!

looks like heavy use and the stone looks dinged in places...that kinda wear could dislodge the rock a little......but it looks original to the setting...

the white gold may have started out as a nice design...but now it hides the stone..
    imo

Thanks for the insight! Does it look like a mine cut or old euro?

i had a Cardin wallet...made with the same thin leather covering....it stuck to itself...from age........and trying to separate one side from the other.
    ruined it..

I'm still contemplating making an offer for this at 150. How old do you guys think it might be?

Its neither an Old Mine cut or Old European. Both of these cuts have a flat culet. Your stone does not have a flat culet. The culet is the pointy bottom of the stone.
I'd say it's a Transitional cut because of the small-ish table. Transitional is the period between Old European and Modern Brilliant cut.
I think it dates to the 1930s. It's pretty banged up, but would really respond to a good polishing.
