Japanese porcelain lamp base

Does anyone have any ideas about this one, which has one drilled hole, a serious hairline and quite a bit of ugly brown varnish still attached. I bought it cheaply and think it is 'different'. The work is quite detailed, the snow scene runs right round and there's lots of raised white application of some sort. Apologies if my description is too technical ;-)

It's Chinese and not Japanese.
You have a later version of Eggshell porcelain.
The older pieces were almost see through.

Fantastic, thanks. I did wonder Japanese or Chinese ... I cannot for the life of me figure one writing from the other, but it "felt" more Japanese for some reason. (That's me being highly technical again.) Many thanks.

Fantastic, thanks Janetpjohn. I never thought it had much age, just that it was unusual. This one was sold as Japanese by Forsythes Auctions of Cincinnati, but perhaps they, like me, can't tell Chinese from Japanese or right way up When they are marked "Made in China" or "Made in Japan" I have no such difficulty.
