IMG_0765.JPG IMG_0760.JPG IMG_0760.JPG IMG_0806.JPG IMG_0805.JPG IMG_0784.JPG I'm trying to identify the name of the pattern of a plate that is marked as Minton. I sent Replacements photos (which I'm attaching here) and received a response: "Could not identify the pattern."

So, now I'm asking for help. Might this be a fake Minton plate? It seems like a nice quality plate to me, but I'm wondering... Fake?? Or might the small numbers/letters/marks signify a design that Minton decided against producing? All thoughts/theories are welcome.
    Thank you.

LL, these are just some random thoughts about your pattern.

I imagine that there simply are many patterns that Replacements can't identify because they've never had them in stock. I haven't scrolled thru all their Minton listings looking for this one, but I did notice quite a few pattern names with notations of "no image found". Yours could possibly be one of those patterns, or it could be an unnamed pattern, or it could even be unknown. (The pattern also may be number AS5143, which may be what's written on the back. There are other Minton numbers in this general numerical sequence.)

The mark does seem pretty real, however. Here's yours and the one from the well-known site, The Potteries:
    img0 (289).jpg img0 (288).jpg
    Their notation says:
    Basic printed mark
    c.1912-50
Often with 'Made in England' added

    from: http://www.thepotteries.org/mark/m/minton.html

Yours, of course, doesn't have the words "Made in", but they also note that just the word "England" was added to their older mark in 1893. Whether they used the one word without the others after 1912, I honestly don't know.

Finally, I see something impressed into the back of your piece, but I can't quite read it. Can you tell what it says? (Does any of it match any of the marks at the bottom of the page I've linked to above?) That could further help date the pattern.

One more thing... This is Minton pattern #As5149. I see some similarities with yours & wonder if they might be from the same time period:

SBSVC - Thank you for that information. Perhaps my understanding of the message from Replacements was incorrect; my plate certainly resembles the As5149. I could not read the mark impressed into its back, however I'll enlist my daughter tomorrow. Perhaps her younger eyes will do the trick.

LL, if you or she still can't read it, rub a little cinnamon or eye shadow (any sort of darker powder, really) over the impressed parts, and it may be easier to read.

It's not a fake. It looks to be a pattern hand applied onto a Minton blank. I think I can see letters impessed into the clay, they should read Minton, then you should be able to see a date letter. You can look them up but they only give a rough idea as blanks (plain unfired items) got used long after they got made. I think the reason you could not add to the service is its age. I would guess early 20th century by the mark (1900-1920).
