I picked up what I believe is a junyao tea bowl, dating to the sung dynasty (960-1279 AD). The diameter of the bowl is just a little over four inches. In researching values, it seems that prices are all over the board. Is this because the chinese market has been flooded with fakes as prices have escalated?

I think it's because everyone wants their bowl to be a winner, so sellers embellish ....while only a seasoned dealer or collector would really know for sure.

Definitely not a seasoned dealer or collector when it comes to chinese pieces. So, count me among the clueless. I may need to visit with someone on these chinese and british pieces that I have acquired.

I do not intend to sell them but always seek to be informed and document things. If anything, my estate will know what to do with this stuff!

Looks like a Jun piece but as you probably already know those type of ware is not easy to evaluate. Could be fake, could be real. Only the true experts can tell after hands-in examination and maybe varyfing with TL test.

Yeah, kardinal. I hear what you are saying. Thank you! It was included in the many items that I purchased at a high end estate sale (I purchased 38 lots.....my wife suggests that I need to exercise more restraint!) so I am hopeful but clearly, I need clarity. I think I will have to find someone close to chicago.
