    Hello!

I am stumped by a pair of rag dolls. I have searched worthpoint and google and I have come up with nothing. The main clue is they make a quick ticking sound (to mimic a heart beating) when you pick them up. The lady who owns the dolls knows nothing about them other than that they were her mothers. Guessing by the age of the lady these dolls are probably from the 1940s/50s. Any pointers would be most appreciated. Thank you for your time.

    Hi Jason....Welcome.

You looked them all over very carefully for a tag?

    Or perhaps a stamp?

Yes, I did. I thought for a moment they may have been home made but the eyes seem to say they are a brand and were manufactured. Thank you for the reply and for the welcome )

    You're welcome.:cat:

It's possible that they came in a kit and were sewn at home.

Someone else might know, so keep checking.

Thank you Judy. By the way that was suppossed to be a smiley face not a scared blue dot! You may certainly be right because I have only been stumped 4 times before this in the past 3 years. I never knew this site existed but now that I know it is here I'm going to enjoy it! I look forward to passing on the help you have given me.

    You're welcome......not much help actually....just ideas.

But please do check back as someone else may know.

You can change the smiley in EDIT if that still shows. :)

From the pink polka dot fabric, do look 1950s. A modern interpretation of Raggedy Ann and Andy.

I thought this too but is that just a guess Debora?

Yes but educated. (The heart, whether inside stuffing, embroidered on torso or sewn onto clothing is a Raggedy Ann attribute.) Here's another (earlier) variation in with non-traditional elements.

Thank you to everyone! I have e-mailed the link to this thread to the owner of the dolls so she can follow along too. I'm going to re-check the dolls for stamps but I do not think there are any. So, it seems the information contributed may lead to the dolls being home-made from a kit in the spirit of Raggedy Ann and Andy (c1950s).
